What is FLAGS?
FLAGS is the National Scout Active Support Unit which actively supports the recruitment, retention and ongoing support of LGBT adults within Scouting in the UK.
Who Can Join?
We have an open door and fully integrating remit, anyone over 18 is welcome to join the group, including LGBT people, you don’t need to be a member of Scouting to join FLAGS, but if you are you don’t need to get permission from your local area to join FLAGS. Please fill in the Standing Order Form (link above) and send it to us.
How much does it cost?
The annual Unit Membership Subscription is £10. If you only are a member of The Scout Association as a member of FLAGS at the time of the annual census, there will be an additional Headquarters Membership Subscription of about £20 which is payable at the beginning of each year. This will be confirmed and notified to you at the appropriate time.
FLAGS takes part in the Gift Aid scheme and allows us to claim back £2.50 per £10 donation from HM Revenue and Customs which will go towards our activities, events and support. It costs you nothing but you must be a UK tax payer.
What will you get out of becoming a member?
As a Unit Member you will have the opportunity for:
- activities, camps, and events throughout the year to assist with your ongoing training and development;
- providing Active Support to The Scout Association in various ways;
- involvement with the Diversity and Inclusion Project; and
- support from fellow Unit Members where required.
Which form do I need to complete?
If you can answer ‘Yes’ to all of the questions below, then you should complete the Change of Role Form (Form CR), and send it to the Secretary by email or by post.
- I have a current CRB Disclosure for The Scout Association for a role within England & Wales.
- It is dated no earlier than 5 years from today’s date.
- The disclosure was returned as clear / nothing known.
- My service within The Scout Association has been continuous within these 5 years.
In other cases you should complete the Adult Application Form (Form AA). This form includes an application for a CRB Disclosure. You will need to get a local member of Scouting to state that they have seen ID to prove your identity on the form. Further advice about this can be obtained from the Secretary. We need a hard copy of this form as it needs to be sent on to National Headquarters for processing.
Please use the links at the top of this page to download all the information and forms that are required.
If you have any problems in downloading these forms, please send an email to our Secretary to request that a membership pack be sent to you.
